Why are high school girls so tolerant of rap music that promotes violence against women?
March 22010
It seems like high school girls are a big market for rap music, and they seem to buy rap music that promotes violence against women. Why wouldn’t they boycott those type of sounds and force the industry to stop promoting this kind of violence?
Best question on Y!A yet! I’ve been wondering that for YEARS! Why any woman would listen to that is beyond me. I’ve never listened to it even when I was in high school. Actually, I wouldn’t even date a guy who DID listen to it. To me if he could enjoy that kind of talk (or rap) going on then that was just to "iffy" for me. I have nothing against rap in general, just the type that is grossly violent or about women being just something to do and that’s it.

I think they should outlaw music that promotes violence against women or anyone for that matter. I mean when they have music about killing someone or abusing someone or going out and rape a woman to me that is just wrong. This country should do more to prevent abuse.

they are still in high school. they do what’s "cool". at my high school, being a cheerleader, smoking pot and partying at Mike’s house and getting drunk while watching porn on the big screen was cool (until the cops showed up, every weekend!). so that’s what we all did.

a lot of high schoolers are just getting their first cars, and a lot of rap does have really good bass…….good way to show off a new system.
personally, i never liked it.

Most of us just ignore it, or just listen to the music because it has a good beat. No matter what, there will always be those few people that just don’t care what they say and will put it on their album for the world to hear.

A vulgar profanity filled rap song won an Oscar last year for best song…….Your point?
You can’t spell crap without rap.

We’re not. There are a lot of girls (including me) that I know that find these things extremely offensive, and not every teenager is the kind that does things just because they think it’s cool. I’m 14, and people criticize me for listening to classic rock and wearing "not-in" clothing all the time, but it doesn’t really affect me that much. I don’t understand why things like that would pressure other teens into changing their regular lifestyles.

very good point, that has always bugged me, they just listen to it to look cool and cuz they think its sounds sweet
but really its just disgusting and all these little tweenies have never bothered to actually understand it and most live in million dollar homes holding their designer purses no where near the ghetto

I think that most people do not listen to the lyrics. I won’t listen to Rap music, and it isn’t because it’s a monotonous tone, it is because of the words.
If they do actually listen to the lyrics, and don’t care, they probably think that will never happen to me!

Perhaps it is because they don’t value "Themselves" as women and girls did in the past, a kind of a sub-culture that tolerates that type of thing.
