Sin by Silence
A film by Olivia Klaus
Since 1989, Convicted Women Against Abuse, the first inmate-initiated and -led group inside the US prison system, has changed laws for battered women, raised awareness for those on the outside, and educated a system that does not fully comprehend the complexities of domestic abuse. From behind prison walls, SIN BY SILENCE shatters misconceptions and reveals the extraordinary lives of women who have killed their abusers and now advocate for a future free from domestic violence.

PART 2-Family Court Crisis – Our Children at Risk

April 22010

Part 2 of 2- This 7 min. trailer continues the story in PART 1 about a brewing nightmare in family courts across America: children are routinely being placed by the family court in the sole custody of their abusive parents. This film exposes a few outrageous cases from Marin County, California.

Part 2 looks at the big business and money motives behind the family law machine; it urges state legislators and others to fix Calif’s courts, and it proposes a solution that would protect children. This film is a call to action if you care about this grave injustice that must be seen to be believed.

Beautiful Women: A Brief on Asian American Women & Domestic Violence

March 272010

Before I say anything, I would like to mention that this video was made for a class I took – History of Asian Americans. I had a group project and our topic was within the theme of domestic violence among Asian American women and children. We needed a “creative portion” for our group presentation so I volunteered to make some kind of cut & paste video, just to be different from all the Powerpointers and posterboards.

What’s important is that I got all of the content off the Internet using Google search with search words like, “Asian American, abuse, domestic abuse and violence.” For the video portions, those were mostly off YouTube. Music is not royalty – it’s just what I had available on iTunes that I deemed able to fit the mood we needed to convey.

And the reason I say all that is because – this is a non-profit, non-official video; I do not own any of this content (however, some of the black & white videos were taken by me) and I give great thanks and full credit to all respectable creators of any audio, images & video borrowed to make this short snippet thing.

This was basically an audience attention getter & a quick info session on our topic.

I did it in a high stress, little time situation, but I figured I’d post it here along with the rest of my videos.

Perhaps a more cleaner cut, original content video will be made in the future!
