My boyfriend has been charged with domestic violence. No previous criminal history. Will he go to jail?

Typically a DV offender is jailed overnight (or weekend) until he sees the judge, which is often fast tracked.

I doubt for a first offense he’ll be seeing any real jail time, unless convicted of something serious. Expect expensive classes and probation.

depending on the state in illinois even if the person that was not the victim refuses to press charges the offender still goes to jail and is charged. This will stay on that person’s background forever it cannot be expunged.

It depends on the state. I can tell you living in South Carolina ,and going though it he was charged five times and he spent a total of 2months in jail. Not all at once. South Carolina is good if you are the person being charged with domestic violence but anything other for get it. Your only allowed to beat women down here and if you have anything else in mind we will make up a law to put you in jail. I have to move back up north.
