Pink promotes domestic violence against men?
February 182010
Imagine the outcry if the genders were reversed in this video.
What a great role model for young women! NOT!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddZPrJ8ROto
"Can’t you tell that this is all just a contest?
The one that wins will be the one that hits the hardest
But baby I don’t mean it
I mean it, I promise
I forgot to say out loud how beautiful you really are to me
I cannot be without, you’re my perfect little punching bag"
I dont recall any Eminem videos actually showing women being hit.
Evelyn its quite clear from your answer that you applaud violence against men as some sort of payback for the woes of the female gender.
Wendy, Pink is far more mainstream than Eminem.
Also, the Eminem character ends up killing himself in his video. i.e. he’s portrayed as a very disturbed person. Lyrics are bad enough, images are much worse.
Well ofcourse. Her whole message and image as a performer is, "Strong, tough independant women who eagerly competes with men". And this song plays right into that.
Her entire image is, butch girl who at times, looks like a dude, with an alpha male attitude, who shows girls they can be tough and nasty too.
Kris W – Unfortunately most guys aren’t going to protest because they know if they do, they’re girlfriends (or possible girlfriends) won’t give them any pootang. Nothing turns a woman off quicker than being against women who are adored by women, even if that woman your protesting against is sexist.
EDITS:
Evelyn – Agreed that there are rap songs that talk about slapping women. The difference is, 1) Pinks song actually has a video showing the violence against men, rap songs don’t show men beating women, & 2) many people find the video acceptable, and it is very mainstream. Rap songs that talk about smacking women are underground hardcore rap songs aimed at a small audience, and have always been frowned upon. I don’t think that it matters that both sexes make sexist music. I think what matters is that it is socially acceptable for one sex to be sexist when it shouldn’t be acceptable for either.
Passive Radical – In Gateman’s defense, he’s not saying that there is no sexism against women in music. He is pointing out the specific hypocracy of this specific kind of sexism, that it’s okay to show women beating men in a video, but not the other way around. He could make an argument against sexism in general but the topic isn’t just about sexism. It’s about this specific extreme aspect of sexism that is frown upon only if men do it, but not women.
Wendy g – It is true that Eminem rapped about murdering his wife, etc, but the difference between him, and Pink, is that he is socially frowned upon for the negative things he’s rapped about, but Pink is socially praised and accepted for the things she says that some may be offended by.

Perfect example of why the "female empowerment movement" is a hate movement.
The only thing I can tell you is watch MTV and VH1 and if they air this music video try and get a lot of people to write to the FCC.
If Pink tries to perform a concert in your region show up and protest.
Even if your the only one protesting it is the principal of the matter.
Never back down, never surrender to hate and ignorance.

Rap yeah.. only popular on MTV and in inner cities. The majority of the country listens to rock and country which is very romantic when it comes to how men perceive women.
Besides rap= crap

wow…. and its ok for guys to talk and rap about smackin and slappin hoes etc, dont try gender reversal in thhis day and age, women have put up with enough as it is, and if you actually listen to the song, that is not her point at all, just the misguided self absorbent opinions of a self obsessed man/boy. men to this day even with so called equall rights get paid way more than women, have way more rights than women, and have more standing in their say and in government than it seems women ever will. so do me a favour, and when some talented girl who notices all this makes a small statement about it in a song, dont even attempt to say anything because you dont have the right!!

I guess you’ve never heard of Eminem?
Girlfriend tied up in the trunk of the car:
http://www.metrolyrics.com/stan-lyrics-eminem.html
In this one he raps about his murdered wife in the trunk of his car:
http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/e/eminem/97_bonnie_and_clyde.html
EDIT-Oh, is that the level of acceptance then? Lyrics promoting violence against women, rape, murder, etc, are OK, just don’t show it in a video?
Really?
So you HAVE heard of Eminem, and all of the "slapping those bi!thes and hoes" lyrics by dozens of other artists, but you posted this anyway? Really?
Here he talks about raping and murdering his mother:
http://www.kovideo.net/lyrics/e/Eminem/Kill-You.html
EDIT—EMINEM HAS SOLD 66 MILLION ALBUMS
PINK- 34 MILLION.
Eminem is JUST AS mainstream as Pink. I can’t believe you people are equivocating over this, and coming up with (WRONG) excuses. Does it matter who’s more mainstream? Does it matter if you think rap=crap?
Images are worse? Then what about the images we are shown in the media of rape, beatings, murder of women? In a scenario where combat is not mutual, and someone is getting the crap kicked out of them, or raped, it is far more likely to be a woman.
You are taking this one video and stating that is far worse than the DOZENS of MAINSTREAM songs that talk about violence against women. That is ridiculous. You are losing the argument and will (obviously) make any foolish attempt to try to regain your footing. You’re only making it worse.

Pink is a pretty rough person. I think she likes violence, at least it appears that she does- she’ll probably attract violent men as well. I think it’s all for show but never the less, violence is wrong.
EDIT: In Evelyns defense, she is just pointing out that there is a lot of sexism directed towards women in music as well. Not that two wrongs make a right but it would probably be better if you made a case against sexism in music rather than singling out one case because that is bias.
To the person above me: Yes, violence is wrong. I’m not saying what Pink did was all right and maybe we should all write a letter of complaint to her because abusive relationships are not something that should be mainstream. However, I just wanted to point out that violence against a certain gender, then applauding it, is sexist. For a woman to think it’s ok to hit someone because he’s a man, that’s sexist but it goes both ways. I think the poster knows this but I was just saying that violence goes both ways and should not be condoned.

WOW.
That song has one of the worst videos in this century.
I have never seen a man hitting a woman in a video; and if there is, then it is marked as an adult video.
What was the point of the video any way?
