What do you think illegals demand end to 287(g) but offer little evidence to back up Racial profiling?

March 302011

What do you think illegals demand end to 287(g) but offer little evidence to back up Racial profiling,Unreported hate crimes, Families separated and parents deported for making “insignificant” mistake ?A group of fewer than 10 immigration activists made a litany of accusations against the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement in general on Thursday afternoon during a press conference in front of the Collier County courthouse. They called for comprehensive immigration reform and the end of the Sheriff’s Office’s 3-year-old 287(g) program, which gives trained deputies the federal authority to act as immigration and deportation agents.

However, when asked for evidence to back up their accusations against the controversial program, the activists had little to offer.

“We’re looking for the data right now,” said Felipe Matos, 24, an undocumented immigrant from Brazil and a national organizer for the Basta (Enough) 287(g) campaign that’s planning similar stops around the country. “Right now we know the community is very scared, and the community is not reporting crimes.”

When asked for names of people who he believes the Sheriff’s Office deported without warrant, Matos refused.

“I can’t release names because if I was to release names, I would be going against the very will of the people who are scared to come forward right now,” he said.

Since the inception of 287(g) in Collier County in 2007, the Sheriff’s Office has placed nearly 2,700 immigration detainers on illegal immigrants for removal from the country, the agency reports. The Sheriff’s Office’s 287(g) program has two sides, a corrections program which checks the immigration status of everyone booked into the jail, as well as an investigative program, which targets and arrests criminal aliens with approval from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The Sheriff’s Office reports that criminal aliens detained through the corrections program have an average of five prior misdemeanor arrests and one prior felony arrest, while those detained through the investigative program have and average of 7.5 prior misdemeanor arrests and 3.3 prior felony arrests.

“By identifying and removing these individuals from our community we are keeping Collier County citizens and visitors safe,” Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten said in an e-mail.

Rather than keep the community safe, Grey Torrico, 23, of the Florida Immigrant Coalition, said the 287(g) program creates “discomfort” for both legal and illegal immigrants.

“Victims of crime are less likely to report, and witnesses are at times too scared to say what they saw,” Torrico said. “Many hardworking families have been torn apart by the deportation of a parent detained for any insignificant mistake. 287(g) is not a solution to the current immigration crisis.

“On the contrary, it has created a climate of racial profiling and community insecurity.”

When asked if he approves of the deportation of violent criminals, Matos said that he only has a problem when “unjust laws get enforced in an unjust manner.” When asked, hypothetically, if he would support deporting an illegal immigrant guilty of rape, Matos said he was unable to give a “concrete answer.”

“I’m not ready to answer that question because I don’t feel comfortable without looking at the whole situation instead of looking at very specific cases like that,” he said.

Matos said that because of 287(g), victims of domestic violence are being booked into jail, another charge the Sheriff’s Office denies.

“We have always encouraged anyone who has evidence of racial profiling to bring it to our attention,” Batten said in an e-mail. “To date, we have not had a single complaint. Additionally, we are not aware of any studies that conclude immigrants are less likely to call police when there is a 287(g) program in place

People who are here illegally are criminals and should be deported and we as the American public as in any law abiding authority should have the right to request that proof. This country wouldn’t need to be condemned for racial profiling if other people who don’t belong here in the first place stayed in their own flippin country, live off of our tax money, and reproduce like rabbits just to be able to stay here. It is an ignorant mentality and is low balling the American economy.

Cases of abuse against women?

March 282011

I’m doing a speech on world issues, please could you give me a link or some info on cases of abuse against women. For example ones where the woman has been beaten severely and the authorities have made no action. Thanks!

The women’s aid pages have some really useful information – and even as is right acknowledge male victims – even though these are in the extreme minority..

Check this link then download the statistics pdf – good luck -

http://www.womensaid.org.uk/domestic_violence_topic.asp?section=0001000100220041&sectionTitle=Domestic+violence+%28general%29

You could also buy ANY women’s mag – Take a break, Thats Life etc you name it every week is the same tale just different victim – ala I loved him and he tried to kill me, he raped me, he beat me up etc etc

Is this a good claim for my speech?

Did you know that animal abuse has actually been linked to domestic violence? According to the ASPCA, a New Jersey study found that in 88% of families where there had been physical abuse of children, there were also records of animal abuse. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence conducted its own study in which 85.4% of women and 63% of children reported incidents of pet abuse after arriving at domestic violence shelters. Animal abuse is immoral, unjust, and outright savage. Today, I’m going to explain to you how you can help stop animal cruelty.

Is there anything I should improve on? Anything I should say differently? Or not at all?

This is a strong, coherent opening. You caught my interest!! Way to go!

New Study on Atheism and Women Abuse?

March 242011

According to a joint study conducted by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Harvard, 90% of those who abuse women are likely to be Atheist.

How do Atheists explain these results?

I’d like a link to the source, as well.

Such a result would not be surprising. There is an overwhelming amount of sociological data that shows that those who are abstinent until marriage report greater sexual satisfaction and less sexual dysfunction. Likewise, partnerships that begin with marriage last longer than partnerships that begin with cohabitation (a new study by the US Centers for Disease Control released just two weeks ago was the latest pebble of evidence in this mountain.) Cohabiting partners have a rate of domestic abuse of about 13%, compared with married-only partners at a rate of about 4%.

Those behaviors of abstinence until marriage and marriage over cohabitation are not exclusively religious practices it must be noted, however they are most consistent with the values of those who profess religious faith.

And so it would stand to reason that those without religious faith would be more likely to cohabit and thus more likely to perpetrate and suffer from domestic abuse.

Link, please.

Even if the study actually exists (and I do not see any reference to it in my searches so far) I’m not sure the conclusion is a direct correlation. This appears to be more of a "cohabitation increases the odds of abuse" result rather than a "atheism increases the odds of abuse" result.

WHY are WOMEN the main perpetrators of violence against children?

March 222011

The US ‘National Incidence of Child Abuse and Neglect’ report in 2000 that found “where maltreatment of children led to death, 78 per cent of the perpetrators were female!

And the ‘National Family Violence Survey 2001′ in the U.S. PROVES women are just as likely to commit violence against men as men are against women.

So WHY are Men are almost exclusively portrayed as the perpetrators of domestic violence and child abuse when the reverse is actually true!!!

More profitable to demonize men.

Why is domestic abuse against men not treated with the same regard as it is towards women?

March 202011

Why are men expected to put up with more simply because they are men?

I come from a broken, fatherless household where I live with my mother and aunt. They are constantly belittling me, taking stabs at my physical appearance, trying to embarrass me if I do things that they do not like, throwing things at me, punching, kicking, screaming, constantly bad talking me in front of friends and family, flat out lying about me to try to ruin my reputation and general passive aggressive behavior like buying things for me just so they can criticize me for accepting their gifts.. All because they hate me.

I have suffered self esteem issues and feelings of inadequacy because of they have been abusing me. When I try to tell people about it, they think I’m lying or they tell me to "suck it up" or "man up". I have had days where I have thought about killing myself.

But women are always encouraged, likely to be believed and there are always open arms for them. Why is that? Why don’t they do this for men too? Do they think we men can’t be abused by women or other men? I don’t think it’s fair that I have to get hated for being a man.

People think that women won’t do much damage and don’t look at it as " a human hitting another human ". No abuse is acceptable IMO. No one should put up with it.

I’m sorry about what has happened to you.

It’s odd because they say it is an issue of men being stronger ( physically ) but if a weak man was beat up by a stronger man then they would say " he was asking for it " .

Even dumber is the fact that if he calls the cops on her, he may end up going to jail.

Should a man who has casual sex install a video camera in his bedroom to protect against false rape claims?

March 182011

I think a false rape claim is more likely to come from a casual (or one night) female partner, not a LTR. So, if a guy is into the casual thing, should he put a camera in his bedroom to have evidence in case she cries rape later?
Alec: But wouldn’t it be illegal (and worse) if she files a false rape claim? He need not let anyone know about such a recording and only turn it over to his attorney if he is arrested.

The chance you’ll get falsely accused are not high. Considering how about of all reported cases 20% end up in trial and of those 20% only 8% end up convicted. However if someone wants to be 100% sure he probably should do something like that.

It is NOT illegal if you’re doing it in your own bedroom, even without the other party’s consent.
It becomes illegal if you decide to publish it or if some of the participants are minors.

———–
Let me just add something for all of the "lawyers" here
US Code Title 18, Chapter 119, Section 2512 prohibits the interception of oral communication by "surreptitious manner," such as a hidden camera, and so most of these cameras are not available with audio recording. Though some on the market may be available with the ability to record audio, these cameras should not be used due to the illegality of the recordings they produce.
Again: It’s perfectly legal(without the audio of course).

———————
EDIT:
@sam, the laws concerning this issue don’t vary in the US, it IS legal without the audio.
I wouldn’t be surprised if in the UK the robbers can sue the bank for taping their attempt of robbing that very same bank.

Was I wrong for not taking a pledge to end violence against women at a UN domestic violence event today?

March 172011

While I was walking down the street to my university, some women from the Violence against women event approached me and asked if I would take a pledge to help end violence against women.

I replied by saying that I would make that pledge if they also tried to end violence against Men,Women and children(I walked away after say that off-course).

I would have done the same thing. However if they were trying to end violence against each other or simply "end violence" they would have had my full support.

Domestic Violence Against Husbands?

March 152011

I was reading a study on domestic violence in North America. In the study it said that 40 to 50% of domestic violence victims are married men, yet it rarely goes reported directly due to social stigma.

In recent years, there has been an increase of violence against men from women.

I checked the studies against a couple of sources and the numbers are correct, just to make sure because you rarely hear about his kind of abuse.

I was curious.

Why do you think there is an increase in domestic violence against married men in recent years and why do some women physically abuse men?
Here are some good links

http://www.ctv.ca/CTVNews/CTVNewsAt11/20030713/stastcan_violenceagainstmen_20030713/

http://www.menweb.org/battered/

http://www.oregoncounseling.org/Handouts/DomesticViolenceMen.htm

It’s not an actual increase in abuse – just an increase in reporting.
The prevalent social attitude is ‘he deserves it’ and ‘he can take it’.

When the police always arrest the man they are following the law.
The law is the ‘Violence Against Women Act’ – it >only< protects women, not men.

Why do hypocritical Christians blame terrorism on Muslims?!?

March 132011

Why does the American Taliban (i.e. the right wing no-moral value "Christians") attack Muslims? We know the morally bankrupt Christians are bigots.
– July 2008: A gunman named Jim David Adkisson, agitated at how "liberals" are "destroying America," walks into a Unitarian Church and opens fire, killing two churchgoers and wounding four others.
– October 2008: Two neo-Nazis are arrested in Tennessee in a plot to murder dozens of African-Americans, culminating in the assassination of President Obama.
– December 2008: A pair of "Patriot" movement radicals – the father-son team of Bruce and Joshua Turnidge, who wanted "to attack the political infrastructure" – threaten a bank in Woodburn, Oregon, with a bomb in the hopes of extorting money that would end their financial difficulties, for which they blamed the government. Instead, the bomb goes off and kills two police officers. The men eventually are convicted and sentenced to death for the crime.
– December 2008: In Belfast, Maine, police discover the makings of a nuclear "dirty bomb" in the basement of a white supremacist shot dead by his wife. The man, who was independently wealthy, reportedly was agitated about the election of President Obama and was crafting a plan to set off the bomb.
– January 2009: A white supremacist named Keith Luke embarks on a killing rampage in Brockton, Mass., raping and wounding a black woman and killing her sister, then killing a homeless man before being captured by police as he is en route to a Jewish community center.
– February 2009: A Marine named Kody Brittingham is arrested and charged with plotting to assassinate President Obama. Brittingham also collected white-supremacist material.
– February 2009: A 60-year-old former Republican Party campaign volunteer opens fire on a gathering of Chilena exchange students in an apartment complex in Miramar Beach, Fla., after telling a neighbor he wanted to start a "revolution" against Latino immigrants.
– April 2009: A white supremacist named Richard Poplawski opens fire on three Pittsburgh police officers who come to his house on a domestic-violence call and kills all three, because he believed President Obama intended to take away the guns of white citizens like himself. Poplawski is currently awaiting trial.
– April 2009: Another gunman in Okaloosa County, Florida, similarly fearful of Obama’s purported gun-grabbing plans, kills two deputies when they come to arrest him in a domestic-violence matter, then is killed himself in a shootout with police.
– May 2009: A "sovereign citizen" named Scott Roeder walks into a church in Wichita, Kansas, and assassinates abortion provider Dr. George Tiller.
– June 2009: A Holocaust denier and right-wing tax protester named James Von Brunn opens fire at the Holocaust Museum, killing a security guard.
– February 2010: An angry tax protester named Joseph Ray Stack flies an airplane into the building housing IRS offices in Austin, Texas. (Media are reluctant to label this one "domestic terrorism" too.)
– March 2010: Seven militiamen from the Hutaree Militia in Michigan and Ohio are arrested and charged with plotting to assassinate local police officers with the intent of sparking a new civil war.
– March 2010: An anti-government extremist named John Patrick Bedell walks into the Pentagon and opens fire, wounding two officers before he is himself shot dead.
– May 2010: A "sovereign citizen" from Georgia is arrested in Tennessee and charged with plotting the violent takeover of a local county courthouse.
– May 2010: A still-unidentified white man walks into a Jacksonville, Fla., mosque and sets it afire, simultaneously setting off a pipe bomb.
– May 2010: Two "sovereign citizens" named Jerry and Joe Kane gun down two police officers who pull them over for a traffic violation, and then wound two more officers in a shootout in which both of them are eventually killed.
– July 2010: An agitated right-winger and convict named Byron Williams loads up on weapons and drives to the Bay Area intent on attacking the offices of the Tides Foundation and the ACLU, but is intercepted by state patrolmen and engages them in a shootout and armed standoff in which two officers and Williams are wounded.
– September 2010: A Concord, N.C., man is arrested and charged with plotting to blow up a North Carolina abortion clinic. The man, 26-year–old Justin Carl Moose, referred to himself as the "Christian counterpart to (Osama) bin Laden” in a taped undercover meeting with a federal informant.
– January 2011: A 22-year-old gunman named Jared Lee Loughner with a long grudge against Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and a paranoid hatred of the government walks into a public Giffords event and shoots her in the head, then keeps firing, killing six people and wounding 14 more. Gifford miraculously survives.
SyntaxEra, I’m not Muslim .. but I’m sick of the hypocrisy coming you right wing extremists.. this is NOT a Christian nation and will never be.

"Jesus Loves Atheists Too" .. there’s several mentions of "Christians" .. apparently you have selective vision.
Brother Trucker, billiions?! If you’re going to pull statistics out of your *** then at least make them believable .. Christians have been the cause of more war and death in the world than anyone.
We’re talking about deaths in America .. not deaths caused by Bush’s religious crusade of choice.

These "Hypocritical Christians" you refer to are not true Christians. No one who really loves the Lord would commit or condone these acts. They are first and foremost hypocrites. They cherry-pick, take out of context and scripture-twist Bible passages to support their warped ideas. I am a Christian and I find the individuals and criminal acts that you have cited just as repulsive as you do.
One day they will stand before Almighty God and he will judge them. At that time none of their false Christian beliefs will save them from his wrath.
