How would you categorize this parent?

February 202011

My mother was beating me with a 2 x 4 wooden stick because i forgot to mop the floor, First of all i forgot to mop the floor because i had so many other chores to do and im human sometimes we forget things. Anyways i ran up to my room and called the police, When the police came I wanted them to take me somewhere safe even though i didn’t do anything wrong. Turns out i got dropped off at the detention center where i found out that ive been charged with domestic violence/aggravated assault against my mother, because she said that i was the one hitting her. I felt so confused because i don’t see how the police didn’t see the bruises on my arms, legs, and back ( I had my shirt ripped of during the beating). I also hated my mother at that point.

Am i wrong for hating my mother?

How would you rate my mother? Scale from 1 – 10

1 meaning the worst parent anyone could ask for
10 meaning a great parent.

Ps. at the time of this incident i was 14 years old i am now 16 years old and I’m still living with my mother, There are SO many other incidents that happened throughout my life that involves my mother mistreating me, In fact a few hours ago there was another incident.

1….

theres no reason a parent should do that to a child. girl u need to get out of that house before something more serious happens

Why do Christians hate women?

Why do Christians hate women?
Those data are from Source US government !!!
http://www.now.org/issues/violence/stats.html

In 1991, 5,745 women in the United States died as a result of homicide.

* Six in every 10 women who are victims of homicide were murdered by someone they knew. About half of these women were murdered by a spouse or someone with whom they had been intimate.
* Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15-44.
* Every 21 days, a woman is killed by domestic violence.
* Up to 50 percent of all homeless women and children in this country are fleeing domestic violence.

The Women’s Health Data Book Report — Violence Against Women indicated that:

* More than 2.5 million females experience some form of violence each year. Almost two of every three of these females are attacked by a relative or person known to them.

* The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found in a national survey that 34 percent of adults in the United States had witnessed a man beating his wife or girlfriend, and that 14 percent of women report that they have experienced violence from a husband or boyfriend.

* More than 1 million women seek medical assistance each year for injuries caused by battering.

* In 1992, the American Medical Association reported that as many as 1 in 3 women will be assaulted by a domestic partner in her lifetime — 4 million in any given year. ("When Violence Hits Home." Time. June 4, 1994).
* Among all female murder victims in 1992, 29% were slain by boyfriends or husbands
* The average prison sentence of men who kill their women partners is 2 to 6 years. Women who kill their partners are, on average, sentenced to 15 years. (National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1989)

WOWWWWWWWWWW 33% of USA female will be assaulted by a domestic partner during their life !

3.46 gpa in community college, with some extracurriculars?

February 162011

Currently, I have a 3.46 gpa and I’m in Phi Theta Kappa, volunteered at a retirement center, am in a culture and art appreciation club and volunteered for women against domestic violence.

Am I doing well? Would I stand out?
I took pre-college classes back in high school and that brought down my GPA :( I’ve been raising it up. It was at a 2.9. Hopefully they notice the rising trend.

What colleges could I look into? What GOOD colleges might I have a standing with?

Virginia Tech. James Madison. Penn State. UMBC. Boston University. Florida State. George Mason. Temple. Good Luck :)

Is it possible for a woman to commit rape against a man?

February 142011

Or is the term "seduction", the description of as far as it gets.

Yes. A woman can rape a man by doing any of these things:

Threatening to hurt the man

Threatening to hurt herself

Having intercourse with him while’s he’s sleeping

How, exactly, is asking men to speak out against rape and violence toward women "attacking all men"?

February 122011

I need a translator for the "logic" that I see here on GS sometimes.
Notice how any question about rape gets turned into a discussion of false rape accusations.
Thank you to those who stated asking men to stand up against rape and violence
is somehow attacking all men or implying they are rapists themselves.

I’m glad you have the cognitive ability to rephrase my question.

Now if only you could answer it…

I think it’s like this. I think or anyway hope that most of us would never rape a woman or strike her or any of those things. But when we’re confronted with the role we can still play in how we either accept, condone, even encourage a culture that promotes that violence or the role we can play in challenging that, it’s not that we mind being asked to do more. It’s that on some level we know the guilt and shame that comes with acknowledging that responsibility and it hurts to see it so we put up these shields and we feel like we’re being judged maybe because we know we’ll have to judge ourselves. So we get defensive and perceive and attack because we don’t want to let those painful feelings touch us. We don’t want to see ourselves as having any part in the pain and fear that the women in our lives can and do face so we retreat to telling ourselves we don’t hit women, we don’t rape women. Even if we sometimes laugh at jokes that make violence against women out to be funny or at least we don’t speak up against it and even if we look at and sometimes get turned on by things that objectify women, we aren’t rapists or batterers and we want to keep repeating that. It’s really painful to look at the truth.
I mean I don’t want to act like the pain is anything like the pain victims of this violence face but maybe men even when they’re brave about physical pain can be cowards about emotional pain.
So we say, "Leave me alone. I’m not a rapist and how dare you accuse me."

Is it reasonable to be against rape, but to actively support its legalization?

February 102011

Just as many feminists do in the case of abortion?
Know it all: It’s not cut and dry. Technically, someone could say that rape is a victimless crime if they see women as not human. And sometimes a guy might just really need it. Or sometimes he may be overcome with hormones and not be responsible for his actions.
Lizzie D: Technically the baby is forced to be aborted, so it is an assault on an autonomous human.
Fereshte: That’s an incredibly sexist statement. Obviously rape benefits the rapist.
Fereshte: The memories will last forever and benefit the rapist in the long-term. Even when he’s old and gray, he could look back with fondness.

One can be against something, but still feel people have the right to make their own choice. I don’t like cigarettes, but I don’t think they should be made illegal. The cigarette smoker however freely chooses to smoke. Someone who has been raped has had a violent crime committed against them against their will.

A rape victim is an adult with all the rights and privileges provided to adult citizens. Embryos and fetuses do not yet have these rights, to your analogy there breaks down.
